Investors Became Increasingly Active on CME Crypto Derivatives Market
According to The Block, Ethereum’s OI, open interest in CME Group's ETH options, remains at an all-time high. (Open interest refers to the number of contracts outstanding.)
CME’s ETH open interest rose to $254 million in June. In its turn, Open interest for Bitcoin options is also nearly at all-time highs on CME, with OI sitting at $1.59 billion.
Volumes for ETH options, slightly down in June, thereafter increased, rising from $84 million in January to a peak in May of $334 million. As for Bitcoin options, they rose in June for the 3rd straight month, but remained down from a peak in March.
These trends may suggest either of the two possibilities, or a combination of them: a) cryptocurrency derivatives become a more popular tool – including, perhaps, using them as a hedge – among all types of investors; or b) cryptocurrency investors expect strong price actions in both Etherereum and Bitcoin going forward.
