Apple (AAPL) plans to start manufacturing its own displays by 2024, reportedly moving away from partners such as Samsung and LG in mobile manufacturing. According to the report, Cupertino-based tech giant, Google, could delay its efforts until 2025.

Apple intends to use its own display on the most expensive Apple Watches before the end 2024, Bloomberg reported. Bloomberg cited people familiar with the matter. The screen swap will transform the displays from the existing organic LED to microLED. Apple may eventually bring this technology to other devices, such as the iPhone.

Apple's attempts to switch displays have been ongoing for many years. This is a setback Samsung Display Co., LG Display Co. – two of the main suppliers of Apple touchscreens, according Bloomberg.

Separately, Apple intends to ship an OLED MacBook before the end 2024 at the earliest. Reportedly, OLED laptop sales will continue to grow with Apple's adoption. At the same time, Samsung Display intends to increase OLED panel shipments to laptops, with a 70% growth year-on-year. The company aims to ship between 6 and 7 million units by 2023.

Apple is increasingly making its own tech components. Reports first surfaced in 2020 about Apple's switch from Intel microprocessors into its own silicon. Apple shares closed 0.45% higher on Tuesday at $130.73, and gained 0.2% in afterhours trading.
